Isabel Jonet commented that “2012 was a very difficult year” for the food bank, because there was “a very large decrease in donations from the industry”

In 2003, the food bank supported 189,152 people, a number that rose to 418,881 in 2012 (+114%), the data from the Portuguese Federation of Food Banks (FPBA) reported to Lusa, apropos of a food collection campaign in supermarkets, which will take place next weekend.

From 2008, the year named as the beginning of the crisis, the increase has been more pronounced: Going from 245,269 people in that year, to 272,411 in 2009, 288,019 in the following year, 329,176 in 2011 and 389,200 in 2012.
